Natural flake graphite — the crystalline, flake-shaped form of graphite — combines high thermal resistance, self-lubrication, electrical conductivity and chemical inertness in one material. These properties place it at the heart of several industrial value chains, from high-temperature refractories to modern lithium-ion batteries.
Coarse flakes, typically +80 mesh and +100 mesh, are widely used in refractories: magnesia-carbon bricks, crucibles, stoppers and tundish linings rely on graphite's thermal shock resistance and non-wetting behaviour. The same grades serve foundry facings, washes and casting powders to improve mould release and surface finish.
Fine flake and powder grades contribute self-lubricating performance in greases, oils and dry-film lubricants, while their stable friction characteristics make them valuable in brake pads and other friction materials. Grades such as -200 mesh are typical for these applications, where particle size and purity must be tightly controlled.
Graphite's electrical conductivity supports conductive coatings, gaskets and thermal management materials. Most significantly, purified flake graphite is the feedstock for spherical graphite used as the anode material in lithium-ion batteries, and expandable graphite becomes graphite foil and flexible sheets for thermal and sealing uses. With electric vehicles and grid energy storage expanding, demand for high-purity flake graphite continues to grow.
Selection depends on mesh size, fixed carbon content, ash and moisture limits. Coarse +32 to +100 mesh grades suit refractories and foundry use; fine -200 mesh grades suit lubricants and conductive applications; battery feedstock requires high-purity graphite with consistent fixed carbon. Our natural flake graphite range covers all these options.
