The global natural flake graphite market continues to grow steadily, driven by demand from refractories, lubricants and other industrial applications. Industry research points to a compound annual growth rate of around 5.8% from 2025 to 2033, with the market value expected to expand from approximately USD 12.5 billion in 2026 to about USD 18.5 billion by 2033.
Refractory materials remain the largest end-use segment, accounting for roughly 46% of global graphite consumption. High-purity natural flake graphite is a key raw material in magnesia-carbon bricks and other refractory products used in steelmaking and non-ferrous metal production, where its thermal stability and oxidation resistance are critical.
Lubricants are another important downstream market. Graphite-based forging lubricants are seeing steady uptake in metal forming operations because of their high-temperature performance and excellent release properties. Market analysts project the graphite forging lubricant segment to grow at a CAGR of about 6.0% over the next decade.
For buyers, the key selection factors remain carbon content, flake size distribution, and consistency of supply. Understanding these parameters helps industrial purchasers match the right graphite grade to their application.
